Alert!
Contact
President Bush immediately! The White House is currently
conducting a comprehensive landmines review and will come out
with the NEW U.S. landmines policy in the next couple of weeks.
NOW is your best chance to make your voice heard so that the
U.S. landmines policy improves rather than retreats! Please do the
following as soon as possible:
Call
the White House switchboard at 202-456-1111 between 9am and 5pm
(eastern standard time) and say something along the lines of the
following to the White House operator:
"My name is ___ and I am from ____. Please tell President Bush that
I am calling to urge him to support the Mine Ban Treaty and to ensure
that the current landmines review underway will lead this country
in the direction of Mine Ban Treaty accession."
Write
a letter to President Bush within the week and cc it to Secretary
Powell and Secretary Rumsfeld. Click here for
a sample letter. This letter should be sent within the week.
If
you are affiliated with an organization, urge the organization's
Executive Director or Board President to sign a letter to President
Bush. Click here for a sample letter.
If
your Senators or Representative in Congress have been supportive
of the mine ban movement. (click here for current
cosponsors of Landmine Elimination and Victim Assistance Act
to see who has been supportive of this issue), urge them to contact
President Bush in the next week in order to advocate for a fair
review process focused on Mine Ban Treaty accession.
Urge
everyone you know to do the above! For more information, click
here for the USCBL's recent official letter regarding the review
process.
