Sample Letter:

Dear President Bush,

I am dismayed to hear that your Adminsitration has announced that it will abandon all US efforts to join the Mine Ban Treaty, which bans the use, trade, production, and stockpiling of antipersonnel landmines.

I urge you to instruct the US military not to deploy antipersonnel landmines in Iraq, Afghanistan, or elsewhere, and I urge you to reverse your new policy and support the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty. Antipersonnel landmines maim and kill 15,000-20,000 people each year -mostly children, farmers, and other innocent civilians. The indiscriminate weapon also renders land useless for cultivation. It is time for the US to ban this weapon of terror.

Sincerely,
Your Name and Addressame and Address

Dear Senator_______:

I am outraged to learn that the Bush Administration has announced that it will abandon all US efforts to join the Mine Ban Treaty, which bans the use, trade, production, and stockpiling of antipersonnel landmines.

I urge you to contact President Bush and urge him to reverse this new dangerous policy, which sets a terrible example for mine-using and producing countries.

Thank you.
