Host a Night of a Thousand Dinners event
in November
to raise funds, awareness, and action on the landmines issue
If you haven't already, please consider hosting a dinner, wine
tasting, pizza night, dessert gathering, or any other kind of event
on November 6 (or a little later, if need be) as part of the Night
of a Thousand Dinners initiative. Sponsored by the United Nations
Association's Adopt a Minefield Campaign, which is part of the US
Campaign to Ban Landmines, the Night of a Thousand Dinners is an
opportunity for people throughout the world to simultaneously (or
thereabouts) raise much needed funds, awareness, and action on the
landmines issue.
Here's how it works
You have the option to either ask your guests to make their checks
out to "Adopt a Minefield," which sends demining and victim
assistance funds to mine-affected countries such as Afghanistan
and Cambodia, or to ask your guests to make their checks out to
"Physicians for Human Rights," the coordinating organization
of the US Campaign to Ban Landmines (people are then asked to write
"landmines" or "USCBL" in the memo of their
checks so we make sure the money goes to the right place). We would
be so grateful if you raised funds for the USCBL for our work advocating
for the US government to join the majority of the world in banning
this indiscriminate weapon that kills and maims so many innocent
victims.
To register for hosting an event, visit www.1000dinners.com/site/event.cfm
and, if you'd like, you can "affiliate" with the US
Campaign to Ban Landmines by selecting that option on the site.
If you do decide to affiliate with us, please let us know or contact
us with questions at landmines@fcnl.org
or 617-695-0041.
Whomever you raise funds for if you host an event, we urge you
to pass out action alerts to your guests. You can find up-to-date
action alerts at www.banminesusa.org
Thanks and bon appetit!
