The Ban Van

Miles Meili, a good friend of Physicians for Human Rights and the USCBL, drives a vehicle called the "Ban Van", which is artistically and emphatically painted with an anti-landmines message. Miles is currently driving this van throughout the United States for two purposes:

To collect artificial limbs for the Limbs and Light program in Nicaragua, which is run by the Canadian Fallsbrook Center. Limbs and Light is a development program that helps Nicaraguan landmine survivors rehabilitate themselves and participate in a solar energy program. Miles will be delivering these limbs to Nicaragua in the early January 2001.

To promote U.S. participation in the Mine Ban Treaty. Miles is looking for venues where he can park his Ban Van, speak out against landmines, help local activists throughout the country to galvanize their communities for this cause, and raise funds. Can he come speak (and park) at your church, school, neighborhood association, etc. . .? Can he stay with you to defray lodging costs (he's a nice, clean, harmless guy)? Do you have access to artificial limbs that you can donate? MilesÐ van and presence could be a great supplement to any landmines/peace/human rights events that you already have planned!

To discuss how your community can support the Ban Van initiative and to discuss with Miles the possibility of donating artificial limbs, please contact Miles at milesmeili@hotmail.com.

You can send donations to support the Ban Van initiative to:

Falls Brook Centre
125 South Knowlesville Road Knowlesville,
New Brunswick Canada E7L 1B1
Write "Miles -Limbs and Light" on the memo of the check.
