Ideas for Action
  • Form a local Campaign group with regular activities, meetings, and updates through a newsletter or email.
  • Pass a resolution in favor of banning landmines at your school, church, town council, or professional association.
  • Hold a "Walk or Dance to Ban Landmines." You can call them "Walk Without Fear" or "Dance Without Fear."
  • Give presentations at local schools, religious groups, civic organizations or other associations' meetings.
  • Build a pile of shoes to remember the victims of landmines. Add one every 30 minutes and watch it grow. Donate the shoes to a local charity after the pile is over.
  • Give or raise donations for the US Campaign to Ban Landmines, Demining, or Mine Victim Assistance initiatives.
  • Make buttons, stickers, postcards, logos and other creative artwork.
  • Coordinate a "Concert for a Mine Free Zone" with local musicians. Host an educational table at the event to encourage participation on current Campaign events. Give a short presentation during the concert about the international landmine crisis.
  • Write letters to your Senator, Representatives and local publications editors to express your support for the Campaign to Ban Landmines (click here for a sample letter).
  • Organize a poetry or essay contest about landmines. Publish winning pieces in the newspaper with a letter to the editor about the urgency of the landmine crisis.
  • Appear on a talk show at your local radio or cable channel to discuss the landmine issue.
  • BE CREATIVE! There are many more ways to educate and mobilize the public to address the issue of landmines. Use local resources and talent to call the hearts and minds of your community to the importance of stopping the blight of landmines upon the global community.
